Interesting findings about the Tweed Jacket fabric other than the fact that it is classic

The Tweed jacket is a fabric made from Shetland wool, it is quite heavy, sturdy and resistant to extremely harsh plus cold temperatures such as incessant rains and storms. Tweed jacket is divided into different types and categories

There are different types of Tweeds depending on the availability of sheep wool, the area it is harvested in, the weaving and the brand. Tweed was originally known as tweel, this jacket was one of the most produced fabric in early 20s century and was ideal for the gentleman to hunt, shoot and fish while keeping warm and comfortable. Long ago in the 19th century, the tweed was popular amongst the British classes of Victorian compared to today, this jacket is now associated with professions such as College and Universities mostly worn by Professors and Lecturers or a country gentleman that he is expected to wear such a jacket.

Types of tweed jackets and patterns

1. Donegal Tweed Jacket

It is also known as the Irish Tweed found and famous in the village of Ardara where the artisan tradition is still kept alive.

2. Saxony Tweed Jacket

Originally from Saxony in Germany, this tweed jacket is made from merino wool using a woven thread found in sheep. This is one of the smoothest and soft fabric tweed.

3. Tweeds with different patterns that are bold and simple

Yes Tweeds come in patterns and textures. The common patterns we will see in men’s clothing will be plain tweed, overcheck tweed, herringbone tweed and striped tweed jackets. These are also great for the outdoor acts such as camping.
