Dressing stylishly under extreme conditions such as cold, rains and windy weather is a crisis and most males don’t know what to wear not only for that day but also for the severe colds more common during the winter season. To avert this crisis, men need to wear cold weather essentials that are proven even by style experts and designers to be a must have for such harsh temperatures because they dress you up a bit and they never disappoint when styling them. Search engines such as Google show that the coldest weather in history was in Antarctica on the21st of July 1983 and the temperature was set at Vostok Station. Imagine where you live, temperatures were to drop to its historic lowest or drop in moderation, what outfit pieces would you wear?
Most would answer and say, Mthobisi, come on, sweaters, scarfs, hats or beanies and jackets are what I would wear. Well, that is true but in my opinion, there are way better outfits that are proven to work well and stand against the bad weather. These outfit pieces include: bomber jackets, boots, beanies, blazers and etc. Truthfully, these items are easy to wear but how do you style them? That is what this blog post is all about.
1. Always have a scarf
Scarfs have been around since the ancient history, I am referring to 200BC years and according to an article by https://realmenrealstyle.com/, the first men’s scarf was worn by the men who were Chinese in the third century B.C.E and sources say these men were Chinese. Scarfs are known as an accessory for neckwear and that they are only worn during cold days and that is generally true. However, scarfs come in a variety of colors and fabrics and the best ones according to an article by Scarves.net, https://www.scarves.net/blog/scarves/scarfs-materials-a-guide-to-scarf-fabrics determine the texture, appearance and weather appropriateness so, you should always pay attention to the fabric when shopping for scarfs. The list of fabrics are a lot but in my view and based on the scarfs I ow at home, cotton is the right fabric because it is soft on the skin and is proper for style. Even a man wearing a suit can pull off a cotton solid scarf when the cold weather dips in.
The list of fabrics that are used to make scarves are: cotton, alpaca, cashmere, satin, jersey, silk, wool and pashmina. The dress code, business casual for example, it needs a blazer or a sports jacket, a turtleneck in solid colors such as brown, blue, black and white works well with jeans as the go to trouser for men and even your boots, being your shoe or footwear style. The dress code, business formal, it needs not exactly the suit but a dress shirt with a tie. add a blazer on top, wear that scarf and wear fitted formal pants with boots even but in black to complete the formal look. As you can spot the essence of a scarf, it can be worn casually or formally thus an essential item in a man’s wardrobe during harsh weather conditions even snow (Countries such as Antarctica and Iceland|)
2. Always have a bomber jacket
Bomber jackets are like a parachute type of jacket and they are similar to puffer jackets as some would usually call it. The history of bomber jackets dates back to American history. These jackets were known as “Flight jackets” and were created by the U.S Army Aviation Clothing Board in 1917 to keep world war one pilots warm in the uninsulated open air cockpits of the early fighter planes. In my own view, this jacket can be worn with denim and even a formal outfit such as business formal if you don’t want to wear a blazer or a sports jacket. Bomber jackets are essential for the cold days because you can style them with jeans, sweat pants, hoodies, formal shoes such as brogues. Also, the boots can be worn with this bomber jacket and dark jeans and even sweaters for the upper body part.
3. Always wear a zip up sweater or a hoodie
I always say gentlemen, the best item to layer with it is the hoodie or sweater which in this case it is a zip up sweater. This sweater according to this link, https://thetrendspotter.net/winter-wardrobe-men , these are great for layering and they suit an extensive range of outfits such as business casual, smart casual and ultra casual with shorts. In this scenario, the men have a bunch of outfits laid out for them such as jeans and a t-shirt, they can layer that with the zip up sweater and even add a turtleneck underneath the sweater and even a long overcoat which is explained briefly below as a must have item for cold weather.

4. Always wear a trench coat or a peak coat
This is another way to add flare during those frustrating cold days and that is, have a trench coat at your disposal. In this case, a classic tailored trench does wonders in making a man look good and also protecting him from the pressing colds and frostbites. The trench coat is a great way to look on on point when the weather is dry and pouring outside. If you own a coat even if it is not the trench but an overcoat that is long and peak coat, the best way to style them is to decide on the dress code because a trench doesn’t look good with khaki trousers. This coat looks good with formal apparel such as a three piece suit as seen in the middle image below. Also, a turtleneck with this coat is a brilliant outfit combination for cold weather even if you decide to go formally or casually.

Turtlenecks are the best item for cold weather essentials
I have written blog posts about turtlenecks and they are my personal favorite whether it is raining, cold or mild to warm. This item here provide extra warmth for all men. Cold days occur out of the blue, what would you wear if they weren’t any sweaters, crew necks, henleys and long polo shirts laying around? Well, the answer is none other than the classic turtleneck. Some call it the turtleneck sweater and other just call it a sweater or jersey. This gents, is a no brainer for cold days, if you have a three piece suit and an overcoat or the trench coat, you will find yourself looking great and dapper too. Try it on and tell me via email if I was wrong.
